The Patek Philippe 5135 Gondolo Calendario

Patek Philippe continues the tradition of combining art deco design with the watch makers art of complications in it's Ref. 5135 Gondolo Calendario. It derives it's name from the "Chronometro Gondolo" watches that were manufactured in the 1930s by Patek Philippe for the renowned Brazilian retailer Gondolo & Labouriau. The Patek Ref. 5135 has a tonneau or barrel shaped case which underscores the ongoing popularity of the Art Deco style.

The Patek Philippe Ref. 5135 which is part of the Complicated Collection, features a Annual Calendar patented by Patek in 1996. The Annual Calendar or Calendario as it is called here, displays day, date, month, moon phases and a.m./p.m. indicators. The watch has a center sweep second hand.

The Caliber 324 S QA LU 24H self-winding movement can be viewed through a sapphire crystal watch back. This movement is meticulously finished to meet the specifications of the coveted Geneva Seal, the hallmark of quality for mechanical timepieces. This is a beautiful movement with the enlarged, high rigidity Gyromax wheel and bridges that are intricately decorated with Geneva striping and a 21Kt gold rotor embellished with a Calatrava cross, is comprised of 356 individual parts.

The Patek Philippe Gondolo Calendario Ref. 5135G (pictured above) is 18Kt white gold and comes on a hand stitched alligator strap. The Ref. 5135 is also offered in yellow or rose gold as well as platinum.

The Patek Philippe Reference 5131-The art of cloisonne' enameling

At the Basel World 2008, Patek Philippe introduced the World Time Ref. 5131 with a hand made cloisonne' enamel dial. The dial which is a miniature work of art features a Europe-Asia map.

The World Time Ref. 5131 is part of the Patek Philippe Complicated Collection. The watch indicates the hour in all major cities throughout the world. The world Time displays local time represented by the city at 12 o'clock and the time in all other time zones. When traveling from one timezone to another, simply press the push piece at 10o'clock until the city which represents your destination appears at 12 o'clock. The World Time Ref. 5131 has been highly sought after by watch aficionados who appreciate the watch's rich heritage and interesting complication.

In turn, it's cloisonne' dial will delight connoisseurs of the art of enameling. In addition to geneva enamel and champleve enamel, cloisonne is one of the three classic techniques traditionally used to decorate fine watches and dials. The motifs are always silhouettes whose contours define the shapes of the "cloisons" (french for partition) that contain different colored zones of the finished enamel opus. This enameling technique creates a stunning brilliance of colors which do not fade and retain their luster for centuries.

Due to the complex process involved in the making of the cloisonne' enamel dial, only a small number of the Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5131 will be made each year. Pictured above, the Patek Philippe Ref. 5131R in rose gold.

The Patek Philippe World Time displays local time represented by the city at 12 o'clock and the time in all other time zones. How to service your Patek Philippe watch

Patek Philippe watches are designed to last many generations. To ensure that this will happen, I recommend a regular service every three to five years to keep your Patek Philippe timepiece in perfect working condition. This watch maintenance should only be undertaken by an accredited Patek Philippe service center. Patek Philipppe has created a network of authorized agents ready to assist you with service and repair of your timepiece. A list of authorized dealers can be found over the internet at www.Patek.com
A routine maintenance normally will include the following:
1. Dismantling of the watch and control of all components.
2. Cleaning and replacement of basic movement parts as necessary.
3. Oiling and adjustment.
4. Polishing the case.
5. Replacement of the crown, if necessary
6. Replacement of the case back joints.
7. Replacement of bezel joints.
8. General quality control.

Estimates
The price of the service varies depending on the complexity of the timepiece. You can usually expect a cost estimate within five working days upon receipt of watch.

Basel World 2009: Patek Philippe Ref. 5101R 10-Day Tourbillon Grand Complication

Six years ago, Patek Philippe outdistanced itself from all other Swiss watch makers by introducing the Patek Philippe Ref. 5101. The rectangular timepiece in platinum features two mainspring barrels for a power reserve of 10 days, and a tourbillon escapement. To this very day it is the only crown-wound wristwatch with such an extended autonomy. The striking rectangular form in the art deco style is reminiscent of the classic of the 1920s and 1930s.

Now Patek Philippe has introduced a new version of this Grand Complication in 18Kt rose gold. The Ref. 5150R runs accurately for 240 hours when fully wound. The advantage to this is that the timepiece can easily be left off the wrist for a week without having to be resynchronized. The caliber 28-20/222 movement can be viewed through a sapphire crystal back. The Patek Philippe Ref. 5101R is a splendid example of a complicated timepiece.

Basel World 2009: Patek Philippe Ladies Calatrava Ref. 4896R

Patek Philippe’s new interpretation of its ultra-thin ladies’ Calatrava Ref. 4897 in a warm 18K rose gold case, a dial with a bittersweet chocolate hue, and a bezel adorned with 72 Top Wesselton round diamonds. It is a mechanical opus that redefines seductiveness.
The growing interest of women in artisanal horology is evidenced by the success of the ultra-thin mechanical Calatrava for ladies that Patek Philippe launched three years ago. To accommodate demand, this watch is now being launched as Ref. 4897R in 18K rose gold.

A dial in style
The case shape of the Ref. 4897R reflects the sleek lines of the Bauhaus philosophy: form follows function is the leitmotif of all Calatrava models. Its personality mirrors classic elegance not only with its focus on the display of hours and minutes but also with the 72 Top Wesselton round diamonds on its bezel. Here, eternity subtly contrasts with the constant course of time. This antithesis takes place on a dramatic stage that glows in the dark brown hue of bittersweet chocolate. On the dial, the concentrically guilloched wave pattern interacts with a rich brown to create a fascinating impression of depth. The applied arrow-shaped hour markers and the faceted hands in rose gold appear to be suspended in mid-air.

The 4-hertz heartbeat
The Calatrava Ref. 4897R is powered by Patek Philippe’s manually wound caliber 215 mechanical movement. Although it is ultra-thin and highly compact (height 2.55 mm, diameter 21.90 mm), it fulfills the rate accuracy requirements imposed on all of Patek Philippe’s mechanical movements.

The Calatrava Ref. 4897R for ladies in 18K rose gold replaces its predecessor, the Ref. 4896 G with the white-gold case and deep blue dial. The sheer beauty of the new model, its discreet radiance, the 6.35- mm thick case, and its rich inner life endow this ultra-thin Patek Philippe Calatrava with all the facets it needs to become a celebrated paragon of feminine elegance.
